Van Interior Layout Space Planner
Rough out your interior floor plan and see how much open space is left once the bed, kitchen and storage are in.
Checking your layout against available floor area
Enter your van's interior floor length and width to get total floor area in square meters, then enter the length and width of each fixed element — bed platform, kitchen galley and storage or cabinetry — as simple rectangular footprints. The tool adds up the space these take and subtracts it from your total floor area.
Reading the remaining open space
What's left after the fixed elements is your open floor space — room to stand, move around, and use as a walkway. If the fixed elements add up to more than your available floor area, the layout doesn't physically fit and needs to be made smaller or rearranged before you start building.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as the van's usable interior floor area?
Measure the flattest, most usable rectangle of floor space inside the finished walls — after insulation and paneling have already taken up some of the raw shell dimensions — rather than the outer body dimensions of the van.
What if my fixed elements don't fit in a simple rectangle layout?
This tool gives you a straightforward area check, not a full floor plan — L-shaped kitchens, angled beds or corner storage will use space more efficiently than the simple length×width footprints assumed here, so treat a tight result as a signal to sketch the actual shape to scale.
How much open floor space should I leave for walking around?
Most builders aim to keep at least one continuous walkway of about 50–60 cm wide clear the full length of the van, plus enough open floor in front of the kitchen and bed to stand, cook and dress comfortably.
Does this include ceiling height or storage above the fixed elements?
No — this tool only checks floor footprint. Overhead cabinets, roof storage and under-bed storage don't use floor area and can add significant storage capacity without shrinking your open floor space.
