Study Abroad Cost Estimator

Enter annual tuition, program length, monthly housing and food costs, one-time costs like flights, visa fees, health insurance setup and books, plus an optional exchange rate, to see your total study-abroad cost broken down by year, semester and month.

Build one complete number before you commit

Tuition is usually the headline figure, but housing, food, flights, visa fees, insurance setup and books/supplies routinely add 30-60% on top of it over a full program. This tool adds all of it together so you're comparing offers, cities and program lengths on the true total cost — not just the sticker tuition price.

Use the per-year and per-semester numbers to plan cash flow

The total is useful for the big picture, but scholarships, loans and family support usually arrive per year or per semester. Once you have the total, feed it into the scholarship & funding gap calculator to see how much of it is already covered.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include ongoing costs after I arrive, like rent?

Yes — housing and food are entered as monthly figures and multiplied across your whole program length, alongside tuition and the one-time costs of getting there (flights, visa fees, insurance setup, books). It's meant to be a single, complete program-cost figure.

What is the exchange-rate field for?

It's an optional manual multiplier so you can see your total converted into your home currency. Enter how many units of the study-country currency you get for 1 unit of your home currency; leave it at 1 if you're already budgeting in one currency.

Why show cost per semester and per month, not just the total?

The total tells you what the whole program costs, but per-year, per-semester and per-month figures are what you'll actually budget against — useful for comparing to a scholarship that pays out per semester, or income that arrives monthly.

How accurate is this likely to be?

This is a planning estimate, not a quote. Tuition, housing and one-time costs vary a great deal by school, city and country — check your school's official cost-of-attendance figures and get real visa and insurance quotes before finalizing a budget.
