Currency & Remittance Cost Comparator

Compare up to three ways of sending money abroad for tuition or living costs — each with its own exchange rate and flat or percentage fee — to see exactly how much arrives in destination currency and which option delivers the most money.

Option A

Option B

Option C

The advertised fee is not the whole story

A “no fee” or “low fee” transfer service can still deliver less money than a competitor with a visible fee, if its exchange rate is worse than the real market rate. Comparing the actual amount that lands in destination currency — after both the fee and the rate are applied — is the only way to know which option is genuinely cheaper.

Bigger transfers make the difference bigger

A 1-2% gap between two providers might look small, but on a semester's tuition payment it can mean hundreds of dollars. It's worth spending five minutes comparing 2-3 real quotes before sending a large, one-time payment like tuition.

Frequently asked questions

Why can a worse exchange rate still win?

It usually can't if the fee difference is small — but a noticeably better exchange rate can outweigh a higher flat or percentage fee, especially on larger transfers. That's exactly why comparing the final amount received matters more than comparing the advertised fee alone.

How is the amount received calculated?

For a flat fee: (amount sent − flat fee) × exchange rate. For a percentage fee: (amount sent × (1 − fee %)) × exchange rate. Both represent converting what's left after the fee at the offered rate.

Should I compare providers this way for a one-time tuition payment too?

Yes — large one-time transfers like a tuition payment are exactly where a slightly better exchange rate or lower fee can make the biggest absolute difference, so it's worth comparing 2-3 providers before sending a large amount.

Does this account for how long a transfer takes?

No — it only compares cost. A cheaper option that takes a week longer might still be worth it, but if you're paying a tuition deadline, also confirm the provider's delivery time before you commit.
