Group Accommodation Split Calculator
Split a shared rental or hotel block fairly — nicer private rooms cost more per person, and cleaning or resort fees are split evenly across everyone.
Fair, not just even
When a group books a house with several rooms of very different quality, a flat even split feels unfair to whoever ends up in the smallest, least private room. This calculator divides each room's total cost only among the people staying in it, so the master suite crowd pays more per person than the bunk-room crowd — proportional to what they're actually getting.
Shared costs stay shared
Cleaning fees, resort fees and refundable deposits aren't tied to any one room, so they're split evenly across every person in the group, added on top of each person's room-specific cost.
Frequently asked questions
Why not just split the whole rental cost evenly across everyone?
Because rooms usually aren't equal — a private master suite with its own bath typically costs the host or the group more per night than a shared bunk room. Splitting each room's cost only among its occupants keeps the price proportional to what each person is actually getting.
What counts as a "shared cost"?
Anything that benefits the whole group regardless of which room they're in — a cleaning fee, a resort fee, shared parking, or a refundable damage deposit. These are split evenly across every occupant across all rooms.
What if one room has an odd number of occupants, like 3 in a room built for 2?
Enter the actual number of people staying in that room — the calculator simply divides that room's total cost by however many occupants you enter, whatever the room's original intended capacity was.
Does this account for who actually pays the host?
No — this tool only calculates the fair split. Once you know what each person owes, add the total accommodation payment as a single expense in the Group Trip Cost Splitter to track who actually fronted the money.
