Smart Packing List Generator

A checklist that scales clothing quantities to how many days you're actually away, not just a flat generic list.

Built around a laundry cycle, not a per-day multiplier

Most packing lists simply multiply one t-shirt per day, which quickly overloads a bag on anything longer than a week. This generator instead assumes you'll do a wash roughly every 6 days — or find a laundry service — so core clothing quantities level off rather than growing forever with trip length.

Climate and trip type layer on top

The base list of documents, toiletries and electronics stays constant. Climate then adds temperature-appropriate layers and protection, and trip type adds the gear tied to what you'll actually be doing, so a two-week hiking trip in a cold climate ends up with a meaningfully different list than a business trip of the same length.

Frequently asked questions

How are clothing quantities calculated?

The generator assumes you'll do a load of laundry roughly every 6 days on longer trips, so it caps core items like t-shirts, underwear and socks at that cycle length plus one or two spares, rather than multiplying one item per day for a three-week trip.

Why does climate change the list?

A hot or tropical climate swaps in lightweight, breathable layers, sun protection and insect repellent; a cold or winter climate adds thermal layers, a heavier coat, gloves and hand warmers; a variable climate blends both with an emphasis on layering pieces.

What does the trip type add?

Trip type adds the items tied to what you'll actually be doing — a laptop and formal wear for business, swimwear and reef-safe sunscreen for the beach, hiking boots and a first-aid kit for the outdoors, or comfortable walking shoes and a day bag for city sightseeing.

Can I use this for a carry-on-only trip?

Yes — the quantities here are deliberately conservative and laundry-aware so the list stays realistic for a carry-on bag. Pair it with the packing cube volume calculator to check the total volume fits your bag.
